JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) -

The Charleston County Coroner has identified the victim in the early-morning accident on Johns Island Saturday as Michael Townsend, 32.

Townsend was a PGA Head Golf Professional at Cassique, a course on Kiawah Island. The golf course confirmed Saturday that he passed away.

He won the Carolina's PGA Section Championship last week, on July 30.

According to Charleston County Sheriff officials, deputies responded shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday morning to a single vehicle accident at Main Road and Amber Street on Johns Island.

Deputies report finding a white Honda found on its roof that appeared to have collided with several trees.

Officials say Townsend was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division is still investigating the cause of the accident.
