CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A Charleston County teacher faces charges of first degree criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping against a passenger in his car.

Patrick Aiello, 39, was arrested Monday and has been placed on administrative leave following a report of his arrest, according to the Charleston County School District.

According to Charleston Police, Aiello, who also drives for the ride-hailing service Uber, picked up a woman and her friend Sunday night on the Isle of Palms. Police say after dropping off the female passenger's friend in downtown Charleston, Aiello drove the victim down Savannah Highway, took away her phone and demanded she pay him with  sexual favors.

Investigators say he sexually assaulted her, and then kicked her out of his car. Court documents state the victim was then hit by a car while trying to flag down help, but was not seriously injured.

"The alleged events occurred in the evening, after school hours," Charleston County School District spokesman Daniel Head said Tuesday in a statement. "There is no indication any student was involved."

Head said Aiello is on leave from his job at Zucker Middle School while the accusations are investigated.

An Uber spokesperson said, "Our hearts go out to the victim and her family as we investigate this incident.  After learning of the charges, we removed the driver’s access to the Uber platform, and we are assisting the authorities."
