GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - The principal and athletic director of Goose Creek High School have been placed on administrative leave, but no one is giving an official reason for the action.
The Berkeley County School District confirmed Thursday Principal Jimmy Huskey and Athletic Director Cynthia McBride had been placed on leave.
The announcement comes just days before the start of the new school year and the start of the high school football season.
Huskey said on Thursday he could not comment on the investigation but wished he could say something.
According to sources, the investigation involves allegations of grade tampering for an athlete.
The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office said they have not been asked to conduct any criminal investigation.
Supt. Michael Turner confirmed Thursday morning the two are on paid leave pending the investigation of a "personnel matter."
"Administrative leave is a standard procedure when addressing issues involving personnel matters," district spokesperson Aimee Murray said in a statement. "The process is kept confidential and is done in an effort to conduct a fair and thorough exploration of all facts regarding the situation."
Jim Haynes has been named acting principal at Goose Creek High School while the investigation continues.
