CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - According to the Charleston County Coroner, a man has died following a reported shooting incident and standoff situation in Charleston County.

Officials say 25 year old Cordell Bennett of North Charleston died at MUSC around 3:45 a.m. Saturday morning from a gunshot wound.

A woman was also hospitalized and treated for her gunshot wounds. Her condition is unknown at this time.

Charleston County deputies reported hearing at least one gunshot coming from the interior of a home where they say a man was barricaded following a shooting Friday morning.

"This is kind of a bad area, so I'm not surprised," Shante Wilson, who lives a couple trailers down from the shooting, said.

Family members appeared to enter the home late Friday afternoon to retrieve what appeared to be clothes and other items.

Detectives found a handgun at the scene in the same room where the man was subsequently found unresponsive but breathing on a bedroom floor by a sheriff's department tactical robot. That robot was deployed at approximately 11:25 a.m., according to Charleston County Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson. The man was treated on scene and then transported to an area hospital, where he later died.

Neighbors say it's a quiet area, where most people keep to themselves.

Some were home at the time of the shooting, but weren't able to figure out what was going on.

"I heard the sirens fire up again, so I decided to poke my head out and put a towel right there on the porch, and saw people over there by the double doors, and he said get back in the house there," a neighbor, who declined to go on camera, said. "I said okay, what's going on?"

Charleston County dispatchers had responded to a mobile home park in the 4,000 block of West Montague Avenue to investigate a reported shooting.

Dispatchers received a call at around 9 a.m. from a man who said his sister had been shot by her boyfriend, which he said he learned from a text message. Responding deputies found a woman outside a home suffering two gunshot wounds, Watson said. That victim was transported to MUSC and underwent surgery for her injuries. There is no word on her condition.

Deputies heard at least one gunshot from inside the home, secured the scene, and activated the Charleston County SWAT and Negotiating teams, Watson said. After several unsuccessful attempts were made to communicate with the person inside the home, the tactical robot was sent in.

Officials with the Charleston County Sheriff's office said there were no other victims inside the home.

Some kids could be seen riding around the homes, asking questions about what happened.

They told me to see this up close and personal is completely different from what they've seen on TV or in movies.

One neighbor tells me several different people have lived in this home over the past couple of years.

One woman says the people who live there now have only been there a short while.

The shooting meanwhile has made one of the neighbors extremely cautious, and planning on finding a new place to live.

"I'm about to have two little ones, so I'm concerned," Wilson said. "I don't think I'll be here too much longer."

The Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy had also arrived on the scene. West Montague and Dorchester Road were blocked off during the incident.

Deputies are investigating the shooting and appropriate charges will be made once detectives gather additional information, Watson said.
