SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - The Summerville Police Department will be offering a Citizen's Police Academy for adults from August 27 to November 5.
The Academy intends to educate citizens about the job knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the modern day law enforcement officer.
The classes are open to citizens at least 18 years of age who reside or work in the Town of Summerville, and have an interest in learning more about the workings of the police department.
Through the program, participants will acquire a better understanding of law enforcement operations.
Experienced, practiced instructors and employees will teach students through the use of video and audio presentations and "hands on" exercises.
Participants will have the opportunity to observe diverse areas in the department, and learn more about the difficult challenges encountered by law enforcement officials as they protect and serve the community.
Classes will be held on Thursday nights from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Some optional Saturday classes may take place for hands on training.
Classes will be located in the Summerville Police Training Room at 300 West 2nd North Street, and at other locations as required by topic.
The class is limited to 20 people.
