Jakaitis leaves Stingrays for Norway

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Jeff Jakaitis, the ECHL MVP for the 2014-15 season, is leaving the Stingrays to continue his professional career in Norway the team announced Monday morning.

Jakaitis, who also won two ECHL Goaltender of the Year awards in 3 seasons in South Carolina, helped the lead the Stingrays to the Kelly Cup finals last season before falling in seven games to Allen.

Over the course of his 3 seasons in South Carolina, Jakaitis compiled a record of 58-25-9 with a 2.11 goals against average. Last year he tied an ECHL record with 7 shutouts in a season. He also set ECHL records by winning 16 straight games, having 4 consecutive shutouts and not giving up a goal for over 321 straight minutes.

His two goalie of the year awards that he earned with the Rays, combined with the one he won playing with Gwinnett makes him the only goalie in league history to win the award 3 times.
