CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A former employee of the Charleston Battery is accused of embezzling approximately $100,000 from the organization, according to a police report.

Police responded to the team's headquarters on Daniel Island on Aug. 11. The victim told police a former bookkeeper had opened an unauthorized debit card on one of the company's bank accounts and had incrementally removed the money between 2011 and June 16 of this year, the report states.

Police say the company discovered suspicious activity and had been going back through financial records to determine how much had been taken before they notified authorities.

The victim told police the employee had stopped reporting for work since the discovery had been made and has since been terminated.

No arrests have been made and no warrants have been issued, according to Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis.

The investigation is ongoing, he said.
