CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriff's Office will be one of several Tri-County law enforcement agencies to receive donated ballistic K9 vests on Thursday.
Allen Hall, a former law enforcement officer, will present the vests at the sheriff's office in North Charleston, according to Charleston County Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson.
"Mr. Hall wanted to express the community's appreciation for our four legged fellow officers and highlight their value in public safety," Watson said in a statement.
The "Vests 4 K9s" golf tournament, launched in April, raised $12,000, which was used to purchase 12 ballistic vests.
K9 units from the Charleston and Dorchester County Sheriff's Offices and North Charleston, Hanahan and Summerville Police Departments will receive vests, Watson said.
