JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The Special Olympics South Carolina will be holding the SC State Kayaking Competition at James Island County Park on Saturday.
The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 871 Riverland Dr., Charleston.
The competition will include athletes representing Charleston, Hilton Head, and Columbia.
Depending on skill level, athletes will compete in 200m or 500m, individual or unified races.
This year marks South Carolina's eighth sanctioned competition.
Kayaking is one of the newer sports to be added. It is a flat-water racing event in which athletes compete on their own, or as a pair with another athlete or Unified partner.
