CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Hurricane Danny has strengthened to a category 2 storm, according to the latest data from the National Hurricane Center.

The storm now has maximum sustained winds of 105 mph. Its eye is now about 930 miles east of the Leeward Islands.

At 10 a.m., the center of Hurricane Danny was located near latitude 14.0 North, longitude 48.2 West. Danny is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph and this motion is expected to continue through the night.  A turn toward the west is expected on Saturday or Saturday night.

Forecasters say Danny is about to encounter a less conducive environment, and will likely weaken during the next 48 hours. A NOAA Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate Danny late Friday.

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect, but forecasters say interests in the Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of Danny.
