Classes begin for Lowcountry college students

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - It was back to the books Monday morning for students at Charleston Southern University as classes kicked off for the new semester.

The school welcomed in the largest freshman class in its history on Friday and college students across the Lowcountry moved in to their new homes.

In downtown Charleston, students at the College of Charleston have one more day to settle in before classes there begin Tuesday. CofC officials say they expect a five percent increase in freshmen enrollment over the previous year.

The incoming class of freshmen at The Citadel, known as "knobs," have already reported to school and have been taking part in training. Classes are set to begin on Wednesday.
