NACCP to rally for criminal justice reform at SC Statehouse

COLUMBIA, SC (AP) -

The NAACP is holding a rally at the South Carolina Statehouse to call for reform in the criminal justice system as leaders of the civil rights group continue a march from Selma, Alabama, to Washington, D.C.

The rally to honor the America's Journey for Justice March is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. Monday. National NAACP President Cornell William Brooks will be joined by South Carolina NAACP President Lonnie Randolph and other leaders.

The rally will call for better public education, protection of voting rights and uniform standards across the nation about when police can use force.

When and how officers use force has become an issue in South Carolina. Four officers have been charged in the past year with felonies in on duty shootings.
