SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Authorities have released dash camera videos in connection to a fatal deputy-involved shooting that took the life of a 24-year-old man in Summerville.
SLED officials say Shamir Terrel Palmer of Ridgeville died on August 8 after he pointed a gun at Dorchester County deputies and refused commands to put the weapon down following a chase.
Videos released on Monday include dash camera video of a Highway Patrol state trooper who attempted a traffic stop on Palmer's vehicle, and dash camera video from a Dorchester County deputy who responded to Lake Schultz Drive where the pursuit ended.
The Highway Patrol video shows the trooper attempting to stop Palmer's vehicle. At one point, a gunshot could be heard during the chase. Towards the end of the video, the vehicle stops and two men can be seen exiting out of the vehicle.
When the trooper gets out to detain the men, the vehicle with Palmer inside drives off.
The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office video shows a deputy responding to the end of the chase where other deputies are seen.
Deputies then can be heard giving commands after which multiple gunshots could be heard.
Investigators say the whole thing started when Palmer was involved in another shooting in Ridgeville, then fired a shot at a Highway Patrol trooper who tried to pull him over for speeding.
Deputies then chased Palmer through several neighborhoods where his car struck a house, according to authorities.
After being cornered on Lake Schultz Drive, investigators say Palmer pulled out a gun and refused to drop it.
That's when authorities say deputies opened fire.
State Law Enforcement Division agents at the scene reported finding what they believed was Palmer's gun.
