CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police officials report Eugene Ricky Perry has been charged with Strong Arm Robbery in connection to an incident on August 20.
A bond hearing is set for 2 p.m. today.
An affidavit states Perry threw the victim, a 79-year-old woman, to the ground, causing her bodily injury, and then he attempted to rob her.
According to the report, the victim had exited her place of business at the Seewee Restaurant on Highway 17 in Awendaw with approximately $3000.
While walking to her residence, she was reportedly assaulted by two subjects wearing masks who attempted to steal her money.
The affidavit says the victim's son emerged from the house with a firearm, which he discharged in an attempt to stop the robbery.
The suspects fled the area without the money, authorities say.
According to a police report, one suspect fled in a red vehicle southbound on Highway 17, while the other ran away on foot.
Officials say the victim's son identified one of the suspects to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies went to the suspect's place of residence where the suspect's girlfriend identified his photo.
The suspect's girlfriend also reportedly informed deputies she was aware that the suspect was involved in the incident in Awendaw, and that the suspect was shot during the incident.
