ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A suspect in an Orangeburg County murder has been located in Washington D.C.
Sheriff Leroy Ravenell announced that Darrin Anthony Houser of St. Mattews has been charged in Wednesday's shooting death at an Orangeburg County residence.
"As of 1:30 p.m. today, Darrin Anthony Houser of St. Matthews has been taken into custody," the sheriff said. "He will be served with a warrant charging him with murder."
Ravenell said the investigation led OCSO Central Investigative Division investigators to the nation's capital where Houser was found.
"Based on the authority and warrant obtained by OCSO investigators, Houser was taken into custody without incident in Washington D.C. by US Marshals and agents with the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force," sheriff's officials said.
A press release states Orangeburg County Sheriff's investigators were in Washington Friday afternoon interviewing the subject.
Investigators say Houser entered a Greta Lane residence where just after midnight Wednesday he fired multiple shots, at least one of which struck a 56-year-old man.
"Two subjects who entered with Houser remain unknown," authorities say.
Investigators believe the motive for the fatal shooting was robbery.
"As in the case just three days ago, the subject wanted in our jurisdiction was located in Colorado," Ravenell said. "No distance is too far that we won't come for you."
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information on the shooting are asked to call the OCSO at 803-534-3550 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
