CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Two streets in downtown Charleston have been reopened after authorities investigated an unusual smell Wednesday afternoon.

Charleston police had shut down portions of Hasell Street and King Street earlier in the day.

According to police, the smell was determined to be a cleaning agent used on the air conditioning units at Charleston Place hotel.

The fire department also responded to the scene.

Residents had reported earlier seeing Charleston Place hotel being evacuated.
