Teen on skateboard struck, killed in James Island

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) -

Charleston police are investigating a fatal accident involving a car and a teenager on a skateboard on James Island. 

The victim in the accident has been identified as 15-year-old Gabriel Seagraves of James Island. 

Seagraves was struck at approximately 8:54 p.m. Saturday near Mapelton Drive and Secessionville Lane, according to Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis. He was transported to MUSC where he later died.

Seagraves attended James Island Charter High School, according to Principal Rich Gordon. Gordon tells Live 5 News the school stands ready to offer counseling services to any student who might need them. 

No charges have been filed against the driver of the car. Police are still working to identify the cause of the accident.
