COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A fire destroyed a home in Colleton County this past weekend.
Officials with the Colleton County Fire and Rescue Department say the fire happened at a 125-year-old house in Lodge early Sunday morning.
When firefighters arrived they saw fire coming from the windows at the rear of the structure.
At one point, officials say firefighters had to be pulled out of the building as the ceiling began to fail, raining burning debris on firefighters inside the residence.
"Within minutes of personnel exiting the building, the interior of the building erupted in flames and the roof collapsed," CCFR officials say.
According to authorities, the home presented many challenges for firefighters since the house had been remodeled many times over the last century.
Crews had the blaze under control within an hour, authorities say.
No injuries were reported.
CCFR officials say the fire appears to have started in the kitchen.
The cause is under investigation.
