BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A 14-year-old boy has been arrested and is accused of threatening to shoot a Sedgefield Middle School student with an air pistol.
Investigators say the threat was made in a classroom.
School district officials say the air pistol looked like a real gun, complete with a magazine clip for the weapon and ammunition.
The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office says the incident happened on Sept. 1.
Investigators say the 14-year-old boy showed the air pistol to a 13-year-old girl and said he was going to shoot her.
Authorities say the girl asked him if the gun was real and he said yes.
According to officials, the teacher alerted school administrators and the boy was taken to an office.
Officials say a school resource officer then searched the book bag, found the gun, a magazine clip and plastic BB ammo.
The student was charged with carrying a weapon on school grounds and third-degree simple assault.
The school district says the 14 year old is being disciplined.
Interim superintendent Dr. Mike Turner has expressed concern about kids being able to buy realistic looking guns in stores.
