CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A township in Illinois is expected to announce its plans to nominate the Emanuel AME Church and Charleston for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Officials with the Thornton Township sent out a press release on Monday stating that they will be holding a press conference at the Emanuel AME Church on Wednesday at 6 p.m. to present resolutions in support of the church and the City of Charleston.
The 17-member delegation from the township includes elected officials, ministers and citizens.
In addition, members of the delegation intend to meet with city officials and others about the work that was done in the aftermath of the shooting.
"The delegation will bring the information back to Thornton Township and put a plan in place to protect the 17 municipalities that make up Thornton Township," officials said.
Officials say the township is the largest in the state of Illinois.
