CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - As Republican Presidential candidates prepare for their second debate tonight,the latest presidential polls show Donald Trump still in the lead with Dr. Ben Carson closing the gap considerably.
The latest CBS/New York times poll released yesterday shows Trump at 27% with Carson at 23%.
Nobody else was even close, according to the poll.
Here's how the rest of the candidates looked: Jeb Bush 6%, Ted Cruz 5%, Marco Rubio 6%, Mike Huckabee 6%,Rand Paul 3%,Carly Fiorina 4%,Scott Walker 2%, John Kasick 3%,Chris Christie 1%,Rick Santorum 1%,Rick Perry 1%, Bobby Jindal 0%, and our state's senior U.S.Senator Lindsey Graham also at 0%.
Former Texas Governor Rick Perry has already suspended his campaign.
On the Democratic side,the poll shows Hillary Clinton still has a 20 point lead over her nearest challenger, Bernie Sanders. She has 47% to Sanders 27%.
Vice President Joe Biden who hasn't even entered the race yet, comes in with 15%, while Martin O'Malley is at 0% ,Jim Webb at 1% and Lincoln Chafee also at 1%.
Tonight's debate is being televised live from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California on CNN with the smaller debate at 6 and the main one at 8.
