COPY-DHEC: People who ate at 2 Hardee's possibly exposed to virus

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina's public health agency says customers who ate at two Hardee's restaurants in Spartanburg County may have been exposed to the hepatitis A virus.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control announced Friday the notice applies to customers who ate at Hardee's in Lyman between Aug. 31 and Sept. 15, or Hardee's in Duncan between Sept. 1 and Sept. 13.

People who ate there are encouraged to visit DHEC's health department in Spartanburg or Greenville counties for treatment this weekend.

Hepatitis A is a liver disease.

DHEC medical consultant Dr. Anna-Kathryn Rye says it's important for people who get sick from the exposure to be treated as soon as possible to prevent the virus from developing into a hepatitis A infection.

DHEC learned Thursday an employee had tested positive.
