CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County deputies are investigating a shooting incident between two people that sent a bystander to the hospital Sunday afternoon.

Deputies responded shortly after 4:20 p.m. to a convenience store in the 5100-block of Dorchester Road. Investigators say a man exchanged gunfire with a second person in an vehicle which then fled the scene. The man then ran down Ranger Drive, according to Charleston County Sheriff's Lt. Rita Avila Zelinski.

The victim of the shooting, according to deputies, was not believed to have been involved in the altercation, but was wounded in the exchange of bullets.

A report says conflicting witness statements make it unclear exactly where the victim was standing when he was shot.  He sustained a gun shot wound to his side/rib area, and was taken to MUSC for treatment. There is no word on his condition.

No arrests have been made and no suspects have been identified, Zelinski said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (843) 554-1111 or the Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch Center at (843) 743-7200.
