James Island Mayor faces ethics violation

Bill Woolsey Bill Woolsey

The South Carolina Ethics Commission has fined the mayor of James Island for using public property to influence an election.

Mayor Bill Woolsey said the violation involved a hyperlink on his biography page on the town’s website that linked to this personal website “Mayor’s Corner.”

On that website, Woolsey posted comments about candidates running for a position on the Public Service District commission last year.

Woolsey said he thought the violation ruling was “picky,” but said he did pay the $1000 fine and a $125 administrative fee.
