James Island Mayor faces ethics violation
Bill Woolsey

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Ethics Commission has fined the mayor of James Island for using public property to influence an election.

Mayor Bill Woolsey said the violation involved a hyperlink on his biography page on the town's website that linked to this personal website "Mayor's Corner."

On that website, Woolsey posted comments about candidates running for a position on the Public Service District commission last year.

Woolsey said he thought the violation ruling was "picky," but said he did pay the $1000 fine and a $125 administrative fee.
