JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) -

The state's Department of Transportation says a section of Brownswood Road closed by damage from Friday's tornado will reopen Sunday afternoon.

Brownswood Road, which had been closed from Murraywood Road to Killfish Road, will reopen at 4 p.m., according to the SCDOT.

Authorities reopened other portions of Brownswood Road, Murraywood Road and River Road Saturday as people continue recovery efforts following Friday's tornado on Johns Island and West Ashley.

The tornado, classified as an EF-2 with 130 mph winds, ripped its way through the area early Friday morning, heavily damaging 10 homes, according to officials with the St. Johns Fire Department.

NOAA reported between 70 and 80 homes suffered minor damage.

A total of 12 people from four families were being helped by the Red Cross.
