NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Emergency crews have cleared the scene of an 18-wheeler fire that slowed traffic on I-26 in North Charleston for several hours.
The fire happened on an eastbound lane near the Ashley Phosphate exit; emergency dispatch officials said they first received a call about the fire around 2:11 p.m.
As crews responded to the scene, authorities shut down all eastbound lanes as responders fought the fire and cleared the scene.
Traffic was backed up for miles, according to Highway Patrol
Motorists heading westbound also reported some traffic delays due to the incident.
Authorities eventually opened all eastbound lanes Tuesday night.
Authorities say North Charleston police, fire and Charleston County deputies responded to the scene.
No injuries were reported.
