SLED searching for endangered person and son from Sumter

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is searching for an endangered person and his 6-year-old adoptive son who were reported missing in Sumter Friday afternoon.

Authorities are searching for 76-year-old George Lawson Jr. who was reported missing from a home on Manning Avenue in Sumter 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

SLED officials say Lawson Jr. has severe medical conditions, and law enforcement and family members are in fear for his safety as well as for the safety of his 6-year-old adopted son, Sean Lawson, who is with George in a vehicle which authorities describe as a white Chevy Cruze with SC tag numbers LAK 529.

According to a press release by SLED, the direction of travel is unknown, and they could possibly be heading towards Georgia or North Carolina.
