MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Mount Pleasant Waterworks issued a statement Sunday clarifying that drinking water is safe.
The utility had previously asked customers to limit use of the wastewater system, as heavy rains have caused an increase in water flowing to the wastewater system, spokesperson Dionna Ebeling said.
"Customers can help by not washing dishes, doing laundry, and flushing toilets excessively," Ebeling said. "Customers should not remove caps from their clean-out to allow water to drain. This increases the demand on the wastewater system."
MPW also advises customers to avoid standing water near manholes.
Crews are working around the clock to monitor the systems and respond where needed, Ebeling said.
