Passenger dies, driver charged with DUI after a car crash in Colleton county

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Highway Patrol officers say a fatal car crash happened on Mount Carmel Road in Colleton County around 3:42 a.m. Sunday morning.

Officers say the driver, 36-year-old Phillip Crosby of Walterboro, has been charged with a felony DUI.

Officers say Crosby and the passenger were traveling west on Mount Carmel in a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck when the truck ran off the left side of the road, hit a tree, and then overturned.

The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. They were not wearing a seat belt.

The Colleton County Coroner has identified him as 38-year-old Steven Rourk of Ruffin, SC.
