New firework law goes into effect on James Island

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) -

An ordinance was passed Thursday night that will restrict the hours fireworks can be discharged in the town of James Island. 

According to James Island Town Administrator Ashley Kellahan, it's now illegal to discharge fireworks after 11 p.m. and before 9 a.m.

The exception is on December 31 when it will be legal to shoot fireworks until 1 a.m. 

The vote was 4 to 1.
