JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - South Carolina Department of Transportation crews will be working on drainage improvements for Main Road over the weekend, which will likely cause temporary lane closures.
The work is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m., according to Charleston County spokesperson Natalie Hauff.
The SCDOT will be replacing a pipe and installing an additional pipe under the road to improve the drainage.
SCDOT flagmen will be on site directing traffic on Main Road between Morse Avenue and Marshfield Road. Motorists are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area at all times.
The roadway was closed at various times over the first few days of September because of the combination of heavy rains on Aug. 31 and a high tide. Main Road was then one of many across the Lowcountry that flooded during the historic rain event about a month later during the first weekend of October.
