DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Deputies are investigating after an incident left one man dead and another shot in the arm in Dorchester County.

The Dorchester County Coroner says an autopsy has been scheduled for Marcus Cooper, 22, of North Charleston.

Dorchester County deputies say they responded to a shots fired call Tuesday at 7:09 p.m. near Cedar Grove Drive and Dorchester Manor Boulevard.

According to one homeowner, he heard the shots go off and immediately locked his doors.

"I stayed in the house and pulled my wife in, and shut the door,” said Robert, who has lived in the neighborhood for 16 years. “That's what I hear all the time."

Robert and several neighbors said many people were lining the streets to see what was going on.

"There was about 80 people out here last night... at least," Robert said.

In an incident report, the responding officer says he arrived to a house on Cedar Grove Drive to find a male subject shot in the arm in the driveway.

The incident report states the victim would not tell deputies what happened.

Then his mother arrived on scene and asked where Cooper was. The incident report says he looked at her with a blank stare.

"Where is Marcus?" She yelled.

"In the ditch," he responded. That's when police found a body lying face down in a wooden path between Pine Grove Drive and Dorchester Manor Boulevard. The Fire Department confirmed he was dead when they arrived on scene.

Robert recalls hearing sirens and seeing blue lights through his windows when officers arrived.

What he heard next though, was heartbreaking.

"You could hear the mother screaming and hollering,” Robert said. “She as over here very quickly. It was a heartbreaking moment to hear that screaming mother."

The incident report says an officer found a bloody hand print on a gate to the backyard of a home after the victim of the gunshot wound was taken to the hospital.

Law enforcement were seen blocking a portion of Dorchester Manor Boulevard off of Ashley Phosphate Road that night.

Wednesday the crime scene unit was back in the neighborhood trying to find clues to what happened.

Robert said it may be time to look for somewhere else to live.

"We're about ready to move,” Robert said. “The neighborhood has changed a lot."

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Crimestoppers.

This neighborhood is no stranger to death either. In June a man was shot and killed on his bicycle up at the front of the neighborhood.

His body was also found in a ditch.
