NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities arrested a 39-year-old man in connection to a fatal accident on Dorchester Road near the Air Force Base that took the life of one person.
The North Charleston Police Department charged Andrew Neil Jeffery of Ridgeville with felony DUI with death.
The Charleston County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 79-year-old Jimmy Jones of Summerville who died as a result of blunt force trauma to the chest.
Jeffery was given a $100,000 bond.
The accident had shut down all lanes on Dorchester Road between Cross County Road and the entrance to the Air Force Base.
Police say a Ford Expedition was traveling on Dorchester Road when it struck a Buick head on.
According to NCPD officials, the collision caused the Buick to be pushed back into a Ford F150.
An orange Smart Car attempted to swerve around the incident, but struck a curb and flipped on its right side off the roadway, police say.
NCPD Crime units, NCFD and the coroner's office also responded to the scene.
According to police, the driver of the Buick died at the scene, while the driver of the Expedition was transported to Trident Hospital.
