Cops: Battery bookkeeper goes on $109k shopping spree using company funds

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Investigators say a former Charleston Battery bookkeeper went on a $109,000 shopping spree after she obtained a debit card from one of the company's bank accounts.

The Charleston Police Department charged 49-year-old Lucy McLane Benjamin with breach of trust with fraudulent intent.

She is being held under $40,000 bond in the Berkeley County Detention Center.

Police say she is accused of using the debit card for her personal use totaling more than $109,000.

According to authorities, she used the debit card to buy goods, pay bills and take trips between January 2011 and June 2015.
