NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Officials with the North Charleston Fire Department say a family of five has been displaced following a fire Monday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to reports of a fire in the 5000 block of Butler Street at 4:54 p.m.

Crews reported heavy smoke in the neighborhood and a single-story home on fire.

"Firefighters quickly attacked the large fire extinguishing it in the first 10 minutes," NCFD officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

NCFD officials said the family of five were not at the home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Police, EMS and SCE&G crews also responded to the scene.
