GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Georgetown County Coroner's Office say a body that was found on Wednesday is that of a man who was reported missing following an altercation.
Authorities say the skeletal remains were identified as Alphonso Alston who was reported missing on Oct. 12.
The cause of death is pending.
Officials with the coroner's office says the cause of death will take some time due to the condition of the remains.
The remains were found on Mauresina Road off of Pennyroyal Road in a wooded area.
The location of the body is near the area where two men, Alston and Herbert Deas, were seen on Siau Lane after an altercation in which shots were fired last month.
According to Georgetown County Sheriff's office, Alston went to the home of his ex-girlfriend and found 30-year-old Deas there with her.
Investigators say Deas and Alston got into an argument and Deas shot at Alston, but hit Alston's ex-girlfriend. The sheriff's office says that's where Deas and Alston were last seen.
Georgetown County Sheriff's office had been searching for the two men.
Deas was taken into custody in Longs, SC this morning by Georgetown County Sheriff's Deputies and S.L.E.D.
The Murder warrant has been served on Deas at the Georgetown County Detention Center, where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
