Charleston City Council approves 75-day moratorium on 'gathering place' zoning

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Charleston City Council unanimously voted on Tuesday to approve a 75-day moratorium on "gathering place" zoning.

The zoning consists of a mix of commercial and residential housing space.

The moratorium includes the Maybank Gathering Place near Folly Road on James Island.

That project has had several public forums, petitions and meetings about the controversial site.

The 75-day moratorium would end on Jan. 27.
