CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Bomb detection dogs boarded CARTA buses Wednesday as part of a training exercise.
The K-9's from the Charleston County Sheriff's Office and other agencies are going through re certification, according to officials.
The dogs were instructed to go inside and around the buses to pick up the scent of bombs or bomb making materials.
Officials say it's important to make sure the dogs are ready for a real emergency.
"It's become more and more important I guess in this day and age with all the stuff going on in the world, from homemade bombs to professional made bombs that are starting to become more prevalent," Charleston County Sheriff's Master Sgt. Billy Brinson said.
Brinson's K-9 Gage spent three years in Afghanistan and saved several lives by sniffing out some bombs.
Brinson says training is conducted year round.
