LADSON, SC (WCSC) -

The man arrested after an attempted home burglary in Ladson remains behind bars after a judge denied bond Wednesday.

Ira J. Bennett, 28,  of North Charleston was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree burglary and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, according to Charleston County deputies.

The arrest came after deputies investigated an attempted burglary and shooting at a home in the Woodside area.

According to an incident report, a 13-year-old boy said one of two suspects attempted to get into the home, at which time the teen said he feared for his safety, got his mother's gun and began firing at the suspect, who then fired back.

Detectives say 31-year-old Lamar Brown was wounded and Bennett drove him to the hospital where Brown died shortly after 2:30 p.m.

CCSO officials say a gray Chevy Sonic arrived at Trident Hospital with several gunshot holes.

An affidavit states the passenger in the car had three gunshot wounds, and was rushed to ER in critical condition.

Deputies say the driver of the car, identified as Bennett, reported that someone had shot his car while driving on the interstate.

Authorities canvased the victim's home and located a Colt .45 pistol in the area where the boy said the suspect was trying to enter the home.

The sheriff's office is continuing the investigation.
