Greenville musician was performing in besieged Paris club

PARIS, FRANCE - A musician from Greenville was performing Friday night at the Bataclan theater in Paris that was attacked and where 100 people were being held hostage.

Jesse Hughes, 43, is the frontman for the California-based rock band Eagles of Death Metal.

The Washington Post reported that it had spoken with the mother of the band's drummer, who reportedly said that the band was safe.

The French band Red Lemons also made a post on Facebook stating that Hughes and the rest of the Eagles of Death Metal band were okay:

"For our american and english friends, a terrorist attack happened at the Eagles of death metal concert. We are safe. Mikel Ross, Eric McFadden we were with your mates Jesse, Tuesday, the other musicians outside, they're safe too, they took a cab."

Hughes and Josh Homme formed the band in 1998.

Hughes, who is from Greenville, graduated from Greenville Tech with a degree in journalism.
