ORANGEBURG, SC (WCSC) -

Two men have been acquitted on a murder charge in a 2012 slaying in Orangeburg County, although one of the defendants will serve 28 years in prison for attempted murder.

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports (http://bit.ly/1PQSbH0ts ) that a jury deliberated about two hours Thursday before acquitting Rodsheen Ayer and Terrance Johnson in the shooting death of Gregory Howell.

But Ayer was found guilty of attempted murder in the wounding of Calvin Kennedy in the same incident. Authorities say the shootings occurred during a drug buy.

Circuit Judge Maite Murphy sentenced Ayer to 30 years, giving him credit for the two years he has already been in prison.

A third defendant is charged in the case but has yet to come to trial.
