PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Georgetown County deputies say they will continue the search for a man who fell off of a dock into the Waccamaw River on Pawley's Island until he is found.
Deputies and other agencies responded at approximately 3 p.m. Monday after being notified that two men performing construction repairs on a dock in Hagley Estates fell into the water. One of the men was rescued but the other did not resurface, according to Georgetown Sheriff's spokesperson Carrie Cuthbertson.
WMBF-TV in Myrtle Beach reported Chief Doug Eggiman of Midway Fire Rescue said they received a call for two dock workers who fell in, and that one of them had been recovered a few hundred feet away by a bystander at a civilian dock and was taken to Waccamaw Medical Center for treatment.
Crews called off the search for the missing man hours later and resumed it the following morning, but there has been no sign of the victim.
The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office is using marine patrol units and vessels, side scan sonar and personnel in the ongoing search.
They advise boaters on the Waccamaw River near Hagley Estates to help keep a look out for the missing man.
