GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Investigators have arrested a fugitive and four suspected drug dealers in Georgetown County.
The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office says DEU agents and deputies located 28-year-old Franklin L. McCants Jr. Tuesday afternoon at a home on Kent Road. McCants was being south after by investigators for an earlier incident this month.
According to GCSO officials, DEU agents had developed information that McCants was hiding at a location on Kent Road.
"Responding with the I.C.E. team deputies were able to locate McCants hiding between a bed and a wall in a bedroom portion of a recreational trailer," GCSO officials said.
Authorities say four other individuals were inside the RV with McCants, two of them were in the bed McCants was eventually found hiding alongside, and all attempted to deceive agents as to his presence.
Agents also found a significant quantity of marijuana and a digital scale in the RV.
Deputies arrested 18-year-old Milton Ronnie Byrd of Georgetown, 19-year-old Candace Faith Jordan of Georgetown, 24-year-old Joshua Rodney Pevey of Georgetown and 18-year-old Alyssa Marie Thompson. All were charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and resisting.
"McCants had been wanted since November 19th when Agents attempted to arrest him on several warrants in the City of Georgetown," GCSO officials said."At that time McCants had fled in a vehicle and on foot and escaped. During his flight two Agents were involved in a traffic accident in which an Agent was injured. Other Agents went back to the hotel McCants had left from and found a considerable amount of marijuana and cash arresting McCants girlfriend, Jana Cardinale."
Authorities said McCants' flight, and the investigation at the hotel, added 8 additional warrants to the two already possessed by agents for him.
"His arrest today on Kent Road also resulted in additional warrants for Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Resisting arrest," Georgetown authorities said.
Both McCants and Cardinale had been arrested on Nov. 6 when agents executed a search warrant at a residence on Swallow Avenue in Georgetown and recovered a large amount of cocaine and marijuana along with three handguns, one of which was stolen, as well as property stolen from All4PAWS and Badcock and Company.
