COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A teenager is behind bars accused of two separate robberies in Walterboro this week.

The Colleton County Sheriff's Office charged 18-year-old Herbert Tyrone Benjamin with strong armed robbery and armed robbery.

"An exhaustive investigation identified Herbert Tyrone Benjamin as the  individual committing both robberies," CCSO officials said."On 11/25/2015, Benjamin was found at the Country Hearth Hotel in St. George SC. He was taken into custody by St. George PD."

Authorities say the latest incident happened on Monday at The Loop gas station on 2227 N. Jefferies Blvd. The suspect entered the store, approached the clerk, pulled out a handgun and demanded money.

The suspect then left the store on foot.

The sheriff's office say investigators believe the suspect is also responsible for a robbery Sunday night at the Circle C Express on 11089 Augusta Highway. The clerk said the suspect came up to the register with a bottle of soda and asked for two packs of Newport cigarettes.

The victim reported that when she turned around to get the cigarettes, the suspect jumped the counter, grabbed her by the arm, slapper her across the face and demanded her to open the cash register.

Authorities say after the suspect got money, he ran out of the business toward I-95.

Benjamin was also charged with kidnapping, first-degree assault, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He was locked up at the Colleton County Detention Center.

Sheriff Strickland said,"I applaud the effort of everyone involved in apprehending this individual. Our persistence of following every lead and the assistance of St. George PD proved successful. The Colleton County Sheriff's Office continues to work hard to protect and serve the citizens of Colleton County."

According to the sheriff's office, Benjamin has outstanding warrants for Lee County and Sumter County.

Additional charges are pending.
