CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The man accused of opening fire inside a Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood clinic, has family ties to South Carolina.
On Friday, three people including a police officer died during the shooting and nine others were also hurt. The Colorado Springs Police Department says the suspected gunman is Robert Lewis Dear.
The Colleton County Sheriff's office released several incidents reports on the suspected gunman. Most were reported while he was living in Walterboro, South Carolina, on Winding Creek Road.
A police report from 1997 reveals Dear's wife contacted police about a domestic violence dispute where she said Dear assaulted her. She did not file any charges at the time.
In 2002, reports show he was charged with "peeping tom," but that charge was later dismissed.
In 2003, police say Dear was arrested on animal cruelty charges for being accused of shooting his neighbors dog with a pellet gun. He was found not guilty a year later.
In 2004, a report reveals an ongoing dispute between Dear and a plaintiff. The man says Dear threatened to cause "bodily harm." Dear accused him for pushing his motorcycle to the ground.
Dear is in custody right now and police have not identified a motive for the shooting. Dear's family members who live in Mt. Pleasant have no comment at this time.
