COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

The Colleton County Fire and Rescue Department and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal car crash that happened late Saturday afternoon.

Officials say the accident happened on Maple Ridge Road just after 6 p.m. and involved a tractor and another car.

The scene was littered with Christmas lights, props and decorations, they say. The man on the tractor had been assisting with the installation of large Christmas decorations in an elaborate display.

Authorities say both vehicles were traveling south when the car struck the rear of the trailer being pulled by the John Deere 5105 tractor.

The impact caused the tractor to overturn, ejecting the driver into the roadway.

The trailer was in the ditch south of the vehicles, with the Honda located near the tractor. Officials say the tractor’s driver had no signs of life.

The driver of the car was taken to Colleton Medical center with non-life threatening injuries.

Maple Ridge Road in the area of the accident was closed for five hours.

No arrests or charges have been made. No word yet on the victim's identity.
