CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office has charged a 61-year-old man with driving under the influence after authorities say he rear ended a school bus on Edisto Island injuring five students Monday afternoon.

Authorities arrested Robert Long for the accident that happened shortly before 3 p.m. on Highway 174 near Brickhouse Road.

"A South Carolina Public School bus transporting 20-25 high school students from school to their home was stopped on SC HWY 174 near Brick House Road to allow the kids to disembark from the bus when it was rear-ended by another vehicle," CCSO officials said.

CCSO officials reported that the five student who were injured were transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

Authorities say while deputies were on the scene of the accident, two minor injuries were initially reported.

"All kids are currently being medically evaluated by Emergency Medical Service," Maj. Eric Watson said.
