NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Police reports state the man accused of a shooting rampage at a Planned Parenthood in Colorado had been charged with a rape in North Charleston.

Robert Lewis Dear, 57, who made his first court appearance for the Friday shooting, was charged by North Charleston police in late 1992.

The police report indicates the incident involved "assault and battery with intent to kill (rape)" and criminal sexual conduct.

According to the police report, the victim claimed Dear was waiting outside of her apartment, and put a knife to her throat, forced her inside and sexually assaulted her.

The charge did not show up on his official criminal record.

Dear was also arrested in Colleton County for peeping tom and animal cruelty.

He was never convicted for those crimes.

Dear is accused of fatally shooting a university police officer who responded to the attack, as well as an Iraq war veteran and a mother of two inside the clinic. Nine other people were wounded.

Police have declined to speculate on a motive for the attack. A law enforcement official said Dear told authorities, "no more baby parts," after being arrested. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not allowed to publicly discuss the ongoing investigation.
