GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) -

The Goose Creek Fire Department responded to an early morning house fire on Stephanie Drive in Goose Creek, and disaster-trained Red Cross volunteers were soon on the scene as well.

The Red Cross provided financial assistance for food and clothing, along with comfort kits, containing personal hygiene items, and referrals to partner organizations to help with the victims’ long-term recovery.

On average the American Red Cross responds to a disaster every four hours in South Carolina.  Last year the Red Cross helped more than 7,100 individuals affected by disasters, most of which were home fires, in South Carolina.

To help neighbors affected by disasters become a Red Cross volunteer or make a financial contribution to the Red Cross by calling (843) 764-2323 or visiting www.redcross.org/SC
